Transcendental Meditation is the world’s most scientifically validated technique for decreasing stress, improving health, and reversing the effects of ageing.
What happens to the body during TM?
Deep rest. Rest is the doctor’s first prescription and allows your body’s natural healing mechanisms to function fully.
Scientists have found that TM gives a profound level of rest, and that its effects are directly opposite to those that occur as a result of stress. As a result, deeply rooted stresses and tensions are dissolved. Doctors estimate that 80-90% of all health problems are caused or aggravated by stress. Stress can also accelerate the ageing process.
Physiological changes include
* a marked reduction in metabolic rate
* an improvement in measures associated with stress, including skin resistance and the concentration of various biochemicals in the blood
* and a significant increase in the flow of blood to the brain
These and other findings show that Transcendental Meditation produces a physiological state distinct and separate from sleep or simple relaxation. This is confirmed by several studies comparing Transcendental Meditation with other types of relaxation which found its effect, for example in reducing stress, to be significantly greater.

Prevention is better than cure
Some studies have highlighted Transcendental Meditation’s effective contribution to improving health. One of these, conducted in Canada using GP records, found a consistent fall in health expenditure required for patients who practised Transcendental Meditation compared with the time before they learned.
